The former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and Pro -Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Surveyor Biodun Aluko has reiterated that the All Progressive Congress (APC) is set to win the coming governorship election in the state with resounding victory compared to the past elections held in the State, come June 20, 2026.
Aluko made this known while interacting with journalists in his country home, Ikere Ekiti yesterday. He said All machineries have been put in place to ensure Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s victory at the poll.
He noted that APC have just Inaugurated the campaign council for the election in which he is a member and the party is ready for the open campaign. He stressed that the campaign is basically grassroot campaign which will start from the unit level to the ward level in all the local governments and LCDAs in the State.
“so we are preparing for the open campaigns but our campaign is going to be based on grassroot campaign which will start from the unit level to the ward level in all the local government areas in the state. We are setting up committees at the unit level and at the ward level to oversee this campaign in all the local government areas in the state.
“Then in the state level, even if there is going to be any public rally just for the sake of the people to know that yes we are there but our activities are basically at the grassroots.
“The mandate we have been given is that we want to win 95% of the votes and the minimum of 500,000 votes in the coming election. That’s the mandate given to us and we are doing the best we can to make sure that we achieve such.” He said.
The renown surveyor said Ekiti State is more or less a one-party state for now, pointing out that, Ekiti used to have a formidable opposition that used to be the PDP, but unfortunately PDP is in comatose now. So, as it is, according to him, nobody knows whether PDP will have a candidate or not because of various court judgments, conflicting judgments.
Aluko waved off the believe that All Democratic Congress (ADC) could pose a threat to governor Biodun Oyebanji’s re- election saying, ” to the best of our knowledge, ADC has been registered for quite some time, but it’s actually a brand new party in ekiti state.
“And it’s like asking a primary six student to go and sit for the same examination with a professor. I don’t know, They don’t even have memberships, they don’t even have structures at the ward level, they have no officers at the local government level they have no offices. It’s only a few of them who are friends that want to contest that are meeting at their party secretariat. Where are their offices at the ward and local government level?, they don’t have.”
The former deputy Governor who urged all Ekiti citizens to support His Excellency, Mr Biodun Oyebanji said, not because he is a member of APC, that he rated the governor high, according to him, Governor Oyebanji has done well, he deserves a second time.
He noted further that the incumbent Governor should be given the opportunity to continue the good work that he’s been doing, noting further that Ekiti State has been rated as the safest state in the Southwest under his administration.
“And that’s a very good commendation. And within the little resources that ekiti state has, I believe BAO has been prudent because, as we know, and to the best of my knowledge, I’ve not had any incident of corruption or people under him being accused of doing some underground things that they are caught or doing things that are apparent to the public that is not right. Bao is doing well, he deserves the second time. And I am appealing to our people. We should not allow the one day “Dibo ko Sebe” syndrome to influence their decision.” He said.
Aluko said the present administration in Ekiti State is doing it’s best in terms of giving quality education, improved infrastructure, and strong support to farmer in the state which are the qualities of good governance because it serves as relief to the parents and the populace.
Surveyor Aluko noted that, as the patron of farmer’s association in ekiti state, he knows what the government is doing to assist farmers in the state, So, at least in terms of food security, Ekiti people can feed themselves.
And in terms of internal road network, honestly, he has performed wonderfully well. In a very long time, Maybe in the last 20 years, nobody could drive from Ikere to Ilawe, but now, from Ikere to Ilawe, in less than 20 minutes you are there, likewise Ikere to Igbara odo, you go straight without any hindrances unlike before, so, What else do we want him to do?.
The former Deputy Governor who also explained that the APC remains the dominant party in the state said that other parties were not yet structured or organized enough to pose a significant challenge. Aluko stated that governor Oyebanji’s arch-rival, Engr. Kayode Ojo, had not been unfairly treated and that he’s still a very recognised member of the party.
He emphasized the importance of unity and prudent spending among members of the party as the reason for party leaders in the state to adopt consensus candidacy among contestants within the party.
