Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, a prominent Yoruba elder and national leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has died at the age of 100.
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa announced the death on Tuesday in a statement he personally signed, describing the late elder statesman as a respected figure whose life was devoted to service and the development of Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.
In his message, the governor expressed grief over Fasoranti’s death while acknowledging his acceptance of what he described as the will of God.
“With a heavy heart but with total submission to the will of God, I announce the passing of our revered elder statesman, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who departed this world at the glorious age of 100,” Aiyedatiwa said.
The governor further described the deceased as a symbol of wisdom, integrity and selfless service, noting that his life spanned a century of commitment to the progress of his community and the country.
“Pa Fasoranti was a patriarch, a beacon of wisdom, integrity and selfless service whose century-long life was marked by uncommon commitment to the development of our dear State, Yorubaland and Nigeria at large,” the statement added.
Fasoranti’s death represents the loss of a prominent elder within the Yoruba socio-political space. As national leader of Afenifere, he occupied a position in an organisation known for its advocacy on issues affecting the Yoruba people and Nigeria’s political development.
Afenifere has remained an important voice in discussions about governance, national unity, restructuring and the interests of the Yoruba people. Its leadership has often been associated with political engagement and efforts to influence debates on the country’s future.
