Ekiti State Assembly member, Hon Ayo Adegbite, is set to organise free health services to people of his Constituency and its environs.
Adegbite representing Ado Constituency 1, Ado Local Government in the state said the one-day free medical outreach in collaboration with a Non Governmental Organization, Patent Pathways International, is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Oke Oniyo Health Centre in Ado-Ekiti, capital of the state.
Speaking with newsmen in his office at the Assembly Complex in Ado-Ekiti, on Monday, the lawmaker who is the initiator of the free health mission disclosed that the programme will feature free eye checks, medical screening and treatment of common ailments.
He hinted that the medical outreach would be handled by Development Support International (DSI) and a team of medical consultants from Lagos State.
The House member explained that the primary focus of the programme is the common health related issues which, among others, include ophthalmological consultations with distribution of free eyeglasses, general consultations, as well as screening for hypertension and diabetes.
Other areas of service are, free medications, simple health education, and reproductive health counselling.
Hon Adegbite revealed that the medical mission is one of his priorities in the area of giving back to his people, noting that the people of Ekiti have benefited from the various programmes he has facilitated, including the provision of ICT centres in schools, while the free health mission has been on for over 7 years.
He remarked that the programme will also create awareness of the Federal Government free health care initiatives such as the free malaria treatment at the Primary Healthealth Centers.
He said that NIMC registration will also take place while the health mission is ongoing. He advised Ekiti people and residents in the state to regard the National Identification Number (NIN) as a most crucial feature of their entire life as it is the unique identifier for all in Ekiti and Nigeria to access the Federal and state government “Ulera Wa Scheme”.
He stated that the free health mission serves as an alternative access to healthcare delivery, especially to his people at the grassroots, and to support the good works of the Governor.of the State, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, in providing free and qualitative health care, adding the programme is geared towards promoting health, detecting diseases early, and offering treatment and rehabilitation, particularly in the area of eye checks.
