EKITI NUJ CONGRATULATES ALHASSAN, OTHERS ON ELECTION VICTORY 

The Ekiti State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has congratulated the new President of the Union, Comrade Yahya Alhassan on his election victory at the 8th Triennial Delegate Conference held in Owerri, Imo State capital.

Alhassan who polled 436 votes to defeat two other contestants is the immediate past Deputy National President of the Union.

The chairman of the Council, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, in a statement signed by the Secretary, O’Seun Ogunsakin felicitated Alhassan, his Deputy, Comrade Bimbo Oyetunde, the Vice President of Zone B of the Union, Comrade Ronke Samo and other new officers of the Union.

Babatuyi who said the magnitude of the votes received by Alhassan is a testament to his acceptance by journalists across the country.

He added that Alhassan’s emergence was not surprising as the new President has endeared himself to the heart of journalists by demonstrating  humility, loyalty to the Union and hard work in the various positions he had held in the Union.

The Ekiti Council chairman however called on Alhassan to be magnanimous in victory by reaching out to the other contestants who lost the election, saying that this would strengthen the Union.

Babatuyi urged both Comrades Dele Atunbi and Muhammed Garba who did not win to accept defeat and work with the Alhassan-led Executive in building a union which everyone will be proud of.

He said the outcome of the election is a reflection of the will of Nigerian journalists.

The Ekiti Council chairman prays God to grant the new leadership a successful tenure.
