
The University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s premier university is set to host its 605th inaugural lecture, titled “Quality Amidst Quantity: The Paradox of Managing Education in Nigeria,” to be delivered by Prof. Femi Sunday Akinwumi, a renowned Professor of Educational Management, on February 26, 2026.
The lecture aims to examine the challenges of managing education in Nigeria, exploring the tension between increasing access to education quantity and ensuring the quality of education.
Prof. Akinwumii who is currently the Executive Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, will discuss strategies for achieving quality education amidst growing demand, highlighting best practices and policy recommendations.
The objectives of the lecture which is scheduled for 3:00 pm at Trenchard Hall of the University are to analyze the paradox of managing education in Nigeria, balancing quality and quantity as Akinwumi will identify challenges and opportunities in Nigeria’s education sector and propose solutions for improving education quality and management
During the presentation, Prof. Akinwumi is expected to bring real-world expertise to the table and analyze how to balance access to education with quality.
This lecture will also mark the 5th edition of inaugural lectures of the Department of Educational Management at the premier university and it is going to contribute to educational development by informing policy decisions on education management in Nigeria and stimulating discussion on quality education in resource-constrained settings.
As Prof. Akinwumi will be sharing his long years of academic expertise and research experiences in educational management at the ivory tower, the event is expected to attract academics, policymakers, educators, and stakeholders from across the education sector.
