EKSG STRENGTHENS TOWN PLANNING DEPARTMENT…establishes 4 new Area Town Planning Offices as new Building Control Department takes off

The Ekiti State Government has strengthened the Town Planning Department of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development
with the establishment of four additional Area Offices

The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development , Rt. Hon. Karounwi Oladapo made this known during a meeting with the Town Planning officers in Ado-Ekiti.

According to him, the step became necessary to improve service delivery and the capacity of the Ministry to enforce standards across the State.

He explained that, Ado Area office has been bifurcated into four(4) areas against the existing two (2) while Oye and Ikere Area Offices were divided into two (2) making 22 offices across the state.

Oladapo also disclosed that the new Building Control Department which was earlier approved by the Governor has kicked off to add value to the profession and curtail building collapse in the state.

Stressing the need for intending house builders to obtain approval from the relevant government agencies before erecting structures, the Commissioner warned that stiff sanctions await anyone erecting structures without obtaining the necessary permits

Hon. Oladapo emphasized the need to respect and take cognizance of the ‘stop work’ signs on any project, warning property developers against ignoring the signs and advised them to visit the Ministry for necessary action to avoid penalty from the government.

Speaking on efforts to boost the Internally Generated Revenue of the Ministry, the Commissioner charged the officers to be alive to their responsibilities, prevent leakages and ensure all Government revenues are properly remitted to the appropriate head and subhead of Government.
