… Reaffirms Support For Oyebanji
The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ekiti State Chapter, has denied reports alleging plans by the Igbo community in Ekiti to mobilize members to vote against the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the June 20, 2026 governorship election.
In a statement signed by President-General, High Chief Ndubuisi Alexander, KSJI, the group said it never convened any meeting nor invited traders to discuss multiple taxation or decide on casting protest ballots against the APC.
“It becomes imperative to state that the leadership of the Igbo community which operates on the platform of Ohanaeze Ndigbo never converged on any venue nor invited its traders to any venue to discuss any issue of multiple taxation as alleged to be operated by the Ekiti State Government, let alone deciding on how to cast protest ballots against the APC on Saturday, June 20, 2026,” the statement said.
The group described the allegation as unfounded and said it would not connive with Igbo traders to take action it considered unpalatable, disingenuous, inimical and mischievous.
Hence, “it is not out of place to describe the allegation as an unfounded lie,” High Chief Alexander said.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo said the Igbo community has no grievance against Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and has not reneged on its promise of support made during the Igbo Cultural Day Celebration at Ekitiparapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti, which Oyebanji attended alongside Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
The group attributed the allegation to “mischief makers whose antics and stock-in-trade are to paint the Igbo community in bad light before His Excellency, Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his government”.
“The Igbo community has no grouse against the governor for any reason, and will not denounce its support for him considering the developmental strides he has recorded,” it added.
The leadership appealed to Governor Oyebanji, APC members, and the public to disregard the allegation and not to be distracted by inordinate attention seekers and political job seekers.
“We make bold to say the truth of the support of Ndigbo to APC and the governor will be made manifest by the outcome of the election on June 20, 2026. The detractors will be put to shame,” the statement said.
High Chief Alexander urged Igbo residents in Ekiti to turn out en masse and vote wisely on election day.
