Olowomeye Day 2025 : Family Honours Late Patriarchs, Offers Free Medical Services To Residents in Ikere Ekiti 

The yearly celebrated Olowomeye day was held amidst great funfair yesterday, 20th December, in Atiba Street, Uro quarters Ikere Ekiti with sons, daughters, well wishers and members of the community present to grace the colourful event.

Ogunrinde while welcoming the guests and family members noted that this year gathering is to celebrate unity, good health and progress in the family and also, honour Olowomeye’s heritage and create avenue to forge ahead for a brighter future.

Ogunrinde said, “we remember and celebrate two remarkable members who have left a lasting impact, Pa Samuel Olakunle Ogunrinde who was a pillar of the family and RT. Justice Ekundayo Ogundare who was a shinning example of excellence. Today we will honour them posthumously in recognition of their contributions.”

In his own address, the head of the family, Dr Olu daramola having appreciated God for the gift of life said, the Olowomeye day celebration started in December 2021 and since then, had been a model to other communities in Ikere who now take a clue from their enviable innovation.

Daramola expressed his appreciation to all the sons and daughters both at home and in diaspora for keeping the ball rolling with their moral and financial support for the success of the event despite few obstacles.

He also appreciated the mothers in the family for their wonderful contributions to the growth and unity in the family. The head of the family said, they want to move on with developmental projects which has been their plans over the years.

 He appealed to every sons and daughters in the family to support the renovation of the Olowomeye hall, a legacy left behind by their fathers which is totally dilapidated, promising that every donation meant for the project will be judiciously spent and accounted for.

Daramola also reiterated further that living harmoniously in love with the neighbours and other family members is very important and vital. He expressed appreciation to the chairman, planning committee and the members for the success of the programme.

However, the peak of the event was the presentation of post humous awards to two of their late industrious Patriarchs, late Samuel Olakunle Ogunrinde; a scholar, philanthropist, politician of note and Human developer for the numerous and positive roles played during his lifetime in developing mankind and projecting the image of Olowomeye family and Ikere as a whole.

Also, another distinguished member of the family who was honoured posthumously is late RT. Justice Ekundayo Ogundare, a retired judge of the Supreme Court who served both the nation and his community meritoriously during his lifetime. Throughput his service years, justice Ogundare exhibited great and enviable qualities expected of a righteous judge.

The event was crowned by giving medical health care services to everyone present at the occasion in the areas of high blood pressure, blood sugar test and chest and lung condition test. 

The event which was well attended by over three hundred people comprised of both family members, important dignitaries and well wishers from the town.
