Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele Provides Free Health Care Services To Residents Across Ekiti State

A large-scale medical outreach programme facilitated by Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, in collaboration with other members of the National Assembly from Ekiti State and the Ekiti State Government, has provided free healthcare services to hundreds of residents across the state.

The intervention covered a range of essential medical services, including surgeries, drug distribution, health education, and specialist care.

Speaking during the exercise, the Coordinator of the outreach, Princess Oluwaseye Babatunde, described the programme as a people-centred initiative driven by the commitment of the state government to improve the well-being of citizens.

She said the programme has recorded significant success in delivering critical medical services to beneficiaries, particularly those who would otherwise be unable to afford treatment.

Highlighting the eye care component, ophthalmology expert Dr. Kamal Umar said many patients with vision-related conditions received life-changing treatment.

According to him, the medical team performed several surgeries, including cataract removals and glaucoma procedures, and provided patients with necessary medications.

Dr. Umar noted that the procedures would ordinarily cost patients substantial sums but were offered free of charge under the programme, easing financial burdens and restoring sight to many beneficiaries.

He added that beyond surgical interventions, the outreach also focused on preventive eye care and the importance of early diagnosis. “Many of the cases handled could have worsened without timely intervention,” he said.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the government and the lawmakers for bringing quality healthcare services closer to the grassroots.

They described the initiative as impactful and life-saving, saying it demonstrated responsive governance and commitment to improving the lives of the people.
