Bishop Oluwaseun Fagbohun Launches Food Bank Drive in Ekiti

Bishop Oluwaseun Fagboun has launched a humanitarian “Food Bank” initiative in Ado Ekiti, describing it as a direct response to rising hunger and a strategic move to promote responsible voting ahead of the state’s forthcoming election.

The cleric unveiled the project during a press conference held at the Terminal Bus area in Ado Ekiti, where he introduced the initiative under the platform of The Righteous Movement, also known as TRIPOM. He explained that the programme serves as an advocacy and intervention centre aimed at addressing both social and moral challenges facing residents.

Fagboun said the Food Bank goes beyond the traditional idea of distributing food items, stressing that it operates as a “solution centre” where individuals can access different forms of support, including counselling, scholarships, spiritual guidance, and financial assistance. He said

He clarified that the concept of “food” within the initiative is symbolic, representing whatever form of help an individual needs. According to him, while some may require physical food, others may need educational support, health assistance, or empowerment opportunities.

The bishop explained that the “bank” system allows people to both give and receive, creating a structured support network. He noted that all assistance is processed through proper registration and guided by strict operational procedures to ensure that only genuine cases benefit from the programme.

Fagboun added that the initiative is backed by the Old Catholic International Missionary Society of St. Christopher and the Caritas Sustainable Development Foundation, alongside other partners.

He also revealed plans to expand the programme across all local government areas in Ekiti State, as well as other states including the FCT, Kogi, and Benue.

He further disclosed that the centre will incorporate additional services such as microfinance support, healthcare assistance, and marital counselling, all aimed at improving the overall well-being of beneficiaries and helping them achieve stability.

Addressing the political climate, Fagboun said TRIPOM is focused on guiding citizens toward righteousness, especially during elections. He argued that hunger often influences poor decision-making, insisting that meeting people’s basic needs is key to encouraging them to act rightly at the polls.

With about 50 days to the election, he urged residents to make informed choices and called on media organizations to give visibility to the movement’s message. He maintained that the initiative is ready to support those in need while advocating for a more responsible and morally conscious society.
